In the last couple of years, eating out has become more and more interesting, creating more variety . From a selection, you can find typically Spanish restaurants (Las Rejas, Castillan cuisine, or la Fresquera), Canarian (Las Brasas, the speciality of which is barbecued meat, or Las Goteras), Italian (Il Piccolo, Pinocchio), French (Chez Alain), Japanese (Teppayuri), Chinese, Mexican, Argentinian (Rodeo), Thai(The king and I), English pubs. For fresh fish we recommend the area of La Caleta.Please remember that the typical Canarian dishes are simple and based on meat more than on fish, for example Conejo al salmorejo, stewed rabbit with a rather hot sauce and the puchero which is vegetables, among which corn on the cob, pork meat, the broth of which is mixed with gofio, a local kind of flour. Fish is generally grilled and served with a green sauce based on garlic, oil and a herb called cylantro. Recently both Spanish and Canarian wines have greatly improved their standards. What strikes most is the rather good quality–price relationship. Also noteworthy is the rather informal environment almost everywhere. You don’t need any special clothes to go to restaurants and the staff is usually very kind and helpful.
