Discovery some itineraries in Tenerife

Discovering Tenerife is exciting and easy. As the Canary Islands and therefore Tenerife belong to Spain, they are to be considered both politically and socially European regions in all aspects, with the advantage that both their geography and climates are closer to the African continent. The island is absolutely safe from any kind of danger and there are no “forbidden” areas. You will never get molested by anyone. Here are some suggestions for possible itineraries:we advise you to get a map.

Towns and historical centres: The capital is S. Cruz de Tenerife(45 minutes by car from Adeje). The town is an administrative and political centre with an important commercial port and typical colonial architecture. Especially noteworthy is the Auditorio, a very new architectural work over the sea at the entrance to the town. The next town is La Laguna, which is smaller but maybe more genuine and is also a university town. The highway goes along the coast, from where you can enjoy the view of wonderful landscapes. After a short time you get to Puerto de la Cruz (where you can see the Loro Parque), a tourist sea-side resort and La Orotava, a small town with a beautiful and very important old centre (here you can visit the Casa de los Balcones, a wonderful example of Canary architecture). Then we find Icod de los Vinos, which is famous for what is said to be a millenary tree and, going down along the coast, Garachico. Going further on you come back to the departure point. Our tip is to leave early in the morning if you want to visit everything in one day only.

To Teide: pass Vilaflor, which is adorned with beautiful flowers, and then continue until you get to the famous “moon landscape” and to the foot of the volcano. You will be inside one of the most beautiful national parks of Spain and it also snows in winter. From there you can go on towards Chio and have lunch in a barbecue-picnic area in the pinewood. Here, especially at the weekends, it is easy to meet other families barbecuing. A place you absolutely have to visit is Masca, which you can reach going down again towards the sea. It is a mountainous Canary village which is full of wonderful natural landscapes. Coming back towards Playa de Las Americas you should stop at the port of Los Gigantes. From this port small boats depart to explore the natural and wild adjoining coast.

S. Cruz and Punta de Anaga. The tip of the island above S. Cruz and La Laguna is maybe one of the less frequented areas, as it is rather wild and not easily reachable. After a stop at the beach of Las Teresitas, the beautiful natural beach frequented by people who live in S. Cruz, you’ll continue to discover landscapes of rare beauty. Taganana, Punta de Anaga, the Bosque da Las Mercedes...A detailed map is necessary however as you could get lost in the woods.

Adeje and the Barranco del Infierno: the shortest but not uninteresting walk is closer to the house than others. For this walk you will have to ask at the Town Hall of Adeje for access to the Barranco del Infierno, as it is a natural reserve footpath, therefore controlled. Boat trip: from Puerto Colòn, a 10 minute walk from Villa Alegria, you can go on various charters to discover the coast and above all to witness the numerous colonies of whales and dolphins which now live here all year round. A tip: choose the smallest boats with the least amount of people.
